    Designed for international high school students intending to take the SAT exam. This course provides students with strategies and test-taking practice. Practice includes reading, essay writing, error identification and improvement, math concepts and word problems, and vocabulary development. Students will take timed practice SAT tests.

  • NCIE 3041 - Communicating About Math
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2020
    Learn how to communicate more effectively about math concepts, equations, and word problems. Review US and metric measurement systems, as well as US mathematical notations (for example, when to use a decimal point vs. a comma). Learn how to break down word problems in English and focus on relevant vocabulary. Sample math problems from the SAT, GRE, and GMAT exams will be included.
  • NCIE 3080 - Pronunciation
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2020
    In this course, students will develop their oral comprehensibility. The course will address individual phonemes, suprasegmentals and sentence stress, focusing on areas of difficulty for native Spanish speakers.
  • NCIE 3082 - Grammar
    Primary Instructor - Summer 2018
    This course targets grammar points that are a particular problem for Spanish speakers. Topics of focus are subject-verb agreement, collocations with make and do, dropped pronouns, false cognates, and run-on sentences.

Engaging activities, projects, and presentations help students practice new structures and work toward greater fluency and native-like usage. Course offers 36 instructional hours.
  • NCIE 3509 - Weekend Intensive for Au Pairs
    Primary Instructor - Summer 2018
    This course is designed for au pairs seeking to polish their English and explore career-related themes. Each course meets Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday during the day. Topics may include tourism, marketing, history, the environment, and others. Participants visit local businesses and cultural sites. Online assignments are required before and after course meeting days.
  • NCIE 3511 - IELTS Preparation for Au Pairs
    Primary Instructor - Summer 2018
    This course provides au pairs with test-taking strategies and practice for the IELTS exam. Using real exam questions, students build their proficiency and confidence with the writing, reading, listening, and speaking sections of the test. Students track their progress and develop individualized plans for reaching their target scores.
