Dr. McKinney has focused his research on repertoire for public school ensembles. This research has been presented at conferences and provides a framework for public school conductors to choose repertoire that exposes students to a broad spectrum of musical concepts and skills. His collaborative research is focused on performing choral transcriptions with wind bands. Working with colleagues from the CU choral department, Dr. McKinney has co-presented this research at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference. Other areas of current research are effective and efficient score study methods for developing conductors and repertoire development for collegiate wind ensembles.
