Pope, Allen Research Associate

Research Areas research areas

research overview

  • Dr. Pope's research is focused on using satellite sensors to study the Earth's frozen regions (the cryosphere - glaciers, snow, sea ice, etc.). In particular, his work at CU is focused on using a new NASA satellite (Landsat 8). Dr. Pope wants to understand the satellite's capabilities and apply the new imagery to understanding a few particular projects including studying glacier extent in central Asia, estimating melt and water storage in supraglacial lakes on the Greenland Ice Sheet, and observing very, very cold surface temperatures in East Antarctica.
