Research

research overview

  • With sufficient control of the hierarchical structure of multilength-scale materials, Dr. Ban’s research focuses on exploring chemical and physical properties of materials including 3D materials and membranes via manipulating the interface for energy storage and highly selective membrane technologies. Her current research interests include: Interfacial science and engineering for functional materials used in energy storage and water desalination systems Atomic and molecular layer deposition of hybrid and ceramic materials; Mechanical-electrochemical coupling at electrode-electrolyte interface for a variety of electrochemical systems; Design of new materials systems for lithium ion and sodium ion diffusion in solid lattices and liquid phase for beyond lithium energy storage systems; Materials discovery and development for non-aqueous electrolytes for Na, Mg and Ca metal batteries; Solid-state synthesis of ion conducting materials; Multi-modal and in situ measurements to exploit the complex functionality and process for a more thorough understanding of the mechanisms underlying the electrochemical behaviors.
