  • I develop methods and software for preservation and management of structural assets of surface transportation networks. Research sponsors include the National Academies, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, the USDOT Federal Highway Administration, and the State of Colorado Department of Transportation. Current work will develop guides to preservation of highway bridges and measurements of performance of surface transportation assets. I prepare scholarly reviews of state-of-the-practices in structure preservation and management. These reviews are used to direct national research programs and to guide policy development in state and federal governments.

    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2019 / Spring 2020
    Applies basic principles of structural engineering and mechanics to design of steel structures; design of tension members, columns, beams, open-web joists, steel decks, bolts, bolted connections, welding processes, and welded connections.
  • CVEN 5575 - Advanced Topics in Steel Design
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Fall 2019
    Covers steel structure design and analysis. Includes plate girders, moment connections for beams, design of multistory frames, and other topics determined by class interest. Undergraduate may enroll with permission of the instructor. Recommended prerequisite: CVEN 4545.
  • CVEN 5585 - Advanced Topics in Reinforced Concrete Design
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2019 / Spring 2020
    Covers design and analysis topics for prestressed concrete and/or reinforced concrete structures. Includes review of the current ACI design code, slabs, prestressed concrete, seismic design, folded plates and shells, finite element analysis, and other topics determined by class interest. Undergraduates may enroll with the permission of the instructor. Recommended prerequisite: CVEN 4555.
