research overview

  • Dr. Chen's research is on gyrokinetic Simulation of electromagnetic turbulence and transport in tokamaks. He is the author of the computer program GEM. In the past year he mostly worked on the physics of energetic particles in fusion devices. He has applied the GEM code to the calculation of stability threshold of Alfven eigenmodes in ITER. He has also developed an alternative algorithm for including full kinetic electron dynamics in a Particle-in-Cell simulation, which is complementary to his previous algorithm that uses the split-weight scheme.
