research overview

  • Working to develop next generation theoretical & simulation approaches to renewable energy production. Currently focused on the photoelectrochemistry of transition metal dichalcogenides, with a view to hot-carrier extraction. This has the possibility to access new levels of quantum efficiency in devices and expand our understanding of many-body phenomena, especially as they arise in low-dimensional systems where electrostatic interactions are topologically enhanced. Key quantities like the exciton binding energy are found to be hundreds of times larger than in conventional 3D materials, and this dramatically alters the relative importance of cooling pathways from the photoexcited manifold.
