Professor Motte has been named Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques (Knight in the Order of the Academic Palms) by the government of France. This honorific distinction was given to him for his extensive efforts to promote French language and culture in the United States. Motte specializes in contemporary French literature and has helped get some French authors translated into English. He joined the CU-Boulder faculty in 1987. Motte has authored a number of books, including The Poetics of Experiment: A Study of the Work of Georges Perec, Questioning Edmond Jabès, Playtexts: Ludics in Contemporary Literature, Small Worlds: Minimalism in Contemporary French Literature; Fables of the Novel: French Fiction Since 1990; Fiction Now: The French Novel in the Twenty-First Century; and Mirror Gazing. His awards and recognitions include University of Nebraska Distinguished Service Recognition, University of Colorado Student Union Recognition of Outstanding Contributions and Achievement in Teaching, and the University of Colorado Boulder Faculty Assembly Award for Excellence in Research, Scholarly and Creative Work.
