  • Intensive introduction to world film history from 1960 to the present. Topics covered include the rise of art cinema; the decline and resurgence of Hollywood filmmaking; the expansion of filmmaking to the developing world; film movements such as Direct Cinema, "New Wave" cinemas, and Dogma 95; and the impact of globalization and digital technologies on film making and film consumption. The main focus is narrative cinema but the course also explores major trends in experimental and documentary filmmaking. Formerly FILM 3061. Recommended prerequisite: CINE 3051 (minimum grade C-).
