Guides students through the musical history, as well as the social, political and cultural history, of the spirituals, blues, ragtime, jazz, gospel, freedom songs, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, funk, disco, techno, house, rap and hip hop soul. Recommended prerequisites: ETHN 1022 and ETHN 2001 and ETHN 3212.
