A survey of Jewish history from the Spanish Expulsion in 1492 up until the present day. We will study how Jews across the modern world engaged with the emerging notions of nationalism, equality, and citizenship, as well as with new ideologies such as liberalism, socialism, Zionism, imperialism and different types of antisemitisms. We will look at the diverse histories of Jews in the United States, the Middle East as well as Eastern and Western Europe. Same as HIST 1828 and RLST 1828.
