  • EBIO 4460 - Special Topics
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2021
Familiarizes students with specialized areas of biology. May be repeated up to 15 total credit hours. Recommended prerequisites: EBIO 1210 and EBIO 1220 and EBIO 1230 and EBIO 1240 (minimum grade C-). Same as EBIO 5460.
  • EBIO 4500 - Plant Biodiversity and Evolution
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2019 / Spring 2020
Surveys plant types emphasizing diagnostic features of plants in general and major taxa in particular. Focuses on identity, morphology, anatomy, reproduction, ecology, geography, evolution, fossil record, and economic use of taxa. Recommended prerequisites: EBIO 1210 and EBIO 1220 and EBIO 1230 and EBIO 1240 (minimum grade C-). Same as EBIO 5500.
  • EBIO 4510 - Plant Anatomy and Development
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Fall 2019 / Fall 2021
Lect. and lab. Introduces structures of seed plants, especially angiosperms, and developmental history of these structures. Studies cell types, and their location and function in plant tissues and organs. The laboratory provides an opportunity to examine plant tissues and to prepare tissues for examination by the light microscope. Stresses role of plant structures in the living plant. Recommended prerequisites:, EBIO 1210 and EBIO 1220 and EBIO 1230 and EBIO 1240 (minimum grade C-).
  • EBIO 4520 - Plant Systematics
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2020
Lect. and lab. Studies the principles and techniques of modern systematics of organisms, illustrated with examples from the plant kingdom, usually the angiosperms. Framework of course is evolutionary and ecological, as well as taxonomic. Same as EBIO 5520.
  • EBIO 4870 - Independent Research: Upper Division
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2020
May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours.
  • EBIO 5520 - Plant Systematics
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2020
Explores principles and techniques in modern plant systematics from lichens and non-vascular plants to lycophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. Framework is evolutionary and ecological, with emphasis on taxonomy of major lineages and families of plants. No prerequisites, but coursework in evolutionary biology, genetics, phylogenetics and/or other botany classes is strongly encouraged. Same as EBIO 4520.
