Overview

abstract

The eastern slopes of the Peruvian Andes, one of the most biologically diverse landscapes on Earth, extend for >1,500 km from the Bolivian border in the southeast to the Ecuadorean border in the north. At the northern tip of this crescent-shaped area a series of mountain ranges have been uplifted to the east of the main cordillera, from which they are separated by deep valleys. These outlying ranges include the Cordillera del Cóndor, the Kampankis (also known as the Campanquíz or Campanquis) Mountains, the Cordillera de Kutukú (an extension of the Kampankis to the north, also known as the Cutucú), and the Manseriche Mountains (an extension of the Kampankis to the south).
