A tale of two artists: Valentin Serov and Leonid Pasternak
Journal Article
Overview
abstract
Discusses the style and content of five drawings by Valentin Serov (d.1911) in the Pasternak family collection in the Ashmolean, Oxford, dating from 1900-11. The author states that these drawings represent the friendship between the artist and Leonid Osinovich Pasternak, their respective wives Ol'ga Fedorovna Trubnikova and Rozaliya Isidorovna Kaufman, and their families in Moscow and abroad. She observes that childhood memories inspired elements of Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago, and the Zhivagos were modelled in part on the Serovs and Pasternaks.
