Overview

abstract

  • The International Council for Scientific Unions' (ICSU) Scientific Committee on Solar‐Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) has organized several scientific programs in the area of solar‐terrestrial physics. One such program is the STEP‐Results, Applications, and Modeling Phase (S‐RAMP). Scheduled to run from 1998 through 2002, it is capitalizing on the vast data sets and powerful modeling techniques that were developed under STEP its predecessor.S‐RAMP has three main goals: to enable detailed understanding of Sun‐Earth coupling mechanisms; to facilitate effective information transfer between experimentalists, theoreticians, and modelers; and to demonstrate the successful benefits of the STEP endeavor to funding agencies, the media, and the general public. For more information about S‐RAMP, see the program's Web site (http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/SRAMP/sramp.html).
