This course examines the increasingly fractured, surveillant state of image culture explosively fueled by the internet. We will track how the hybridization of cinema�from the post-war introduction of television to the multi-platform present day�has impacted the aesthetic form and political content of film viewing, pivoting on the work of directors Jane Schoenbrun, Sidney Lumet, David Lynch, Penny Lane, and more, asking how obsession transforms identification, especially when self and screen seem to merge.
