My primary focus is on the history of beer and brewing from its earliest known evidence 13,000 years ago to the present. This ties to my Classical studies and teachings which focus on material culture and particularly emphasize food and alcohol production in Classical antiquity. I also examine the links of large-scale food production and consumption to entertainment, sport, and spectacle in the ancient world.
