research overview

  • The Emergent Nanomaterials Lab manipulates matter on the smallest of scales to create materials with emergent properties, characterized by novel and sometimes surprising features arising from the interactions of multiple bodies. By synthesizing, assembling, combining and organizing nanoscale building blocks, we design technologies that enhance the quality of human lives in the domains of health, energy, sensory augmentation and self-expression.

  • MCEN 1024 - Chemistry for Energy and Materials Science
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Fall 2019
    Covers the basic physical and chemical fundamentals underlying the disciplines of energy and materials, with a focus on topics relevant to your mechanical engineering education. These fundamentals include atomic structure, stoichiometry, the periodic table, chemical bonding, states of matter, thermochemistry and chemical reactions. Department enforced prerequisite: one year of high school chemistry. Credit not granted for this course and CHEN 1211.
