Pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria, can infect a wide range of hosts to replicate and cause disease. Hosts respond to these invaders with their immune systems. Whether the pathogen is a virus infecting human cell, or a virus that infects bacteria (a phage), the immune system represent a barrier to pathogen replication. Our lab studies the interplay between hosts and their pathogens. The ultimate goal of our work is to better understand infectious diseases to enable development the next generation of therapeutics.
