  • Pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria, can infect a wide range of hosts to replicate and cause disease. Hosts respond to these invaders with their immune systems. Whether the pathogen is a virus infecting human cell, or a virus that infects bacteria (a phage), the immune system represent a barrier to pathogen replication. Our lab studies the interplay between hosts and their pathogens. The ultimate goal of our work is to better understand infectious diseases to enable development the next generation of therapeutics.

    Introduction to conducting research in Biochemistry, including covering foundational topics in Biochemistry that include concepts such as protein structure and function, experimental approaches to study biochemical processes, and analysis and interpretation of data. Topics will be taught through the perspective of the scientific literature with an emphasis on critical analysis of research. Additional subject areas will include discussions of aspects of conducting biochemical research in academic and industrial settings. Intended for entering Biochemistry graduate students.
