The research conducted in the Straub Group works to develop technologies for advanced water treatment and power generation. Much of our interest lies in utilizing membrane-based processes, which offer advantages in efficiency, size, and scalability. We use a variety of research methods in our investigations including materials fabrication, laboratory proof-of-concept testing, and full-scale theoretical simulations. Ongoing topics of research include: development of ultraselective membrane materials, membrane cleaning in desalination processes, desalination energy consumption modeling, and process testing of reverse osmosis systems.
