Research

research overview

  • I develop methods and software for preservation and management of structural assets of surface transportation networks. Research sponsors include the National Academies, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, the USDOT Federal Highway Administration, and the State of Colorado Department of Transportation. Current work will develop training modules on preservation of highway bridges. I prepare scholarly reviews of state-of-the-practices in structure preservation and management. In 2024 I will lead a funded project to prepare a second edition of an AASHTO guide to bridge preservation.

keywords

  • highway bridges, bridge maintenance, asset management, condition assessment of bridges, performance of bridge repairs, cost analysis of bridge repairs, cable structures, design of kinematically indeterminant structures, inelastic response of bolt groups, software for structural design, database applications for bridge repairs, deterioration modeling for highway bridges, application of data from safety inspections to deterioration modeling for highway bridges
