Ambler's current research is centered on Aristophanes' critique of the Olympian gods, especially as it is reflected in the three of his plays in which a mortal criticizes and even successfully defies or circumvents the king of the gods ('Birds,' 'Peace,' and 'Wealth'). His hope is to show that Aristophanes is more current than is often thought by bringing him into conversation with such 'new atheists' as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens. Beyond this, he is translating two of Xenophon's shorter works for Cornell University Press, and writing an interpretive essay on one of them.
