  • Dr. Jacobs's work is focused on gender and collective memory, particularly with respect to mass trauma and genocide. She looks at the cross generational transmission of trauma through an analysis of memorial culture and second and third generation Holocaust survivors. Her work also extends to more recent genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda. A second area of research is focused on Jewish identity among millennials in the United States.

  • SOCY 4000 - Gender, Genocide and Mass Trauma

    Studies the persistence of genocide and the effects of mass trauma on women and girls. Within the framework of political and social catastrophe, examines cataclysmic world events and the traumatic consequences for women of religious persecution, colonialism, slavery and the genocides of the 20th and 21st centuries. Recommended prerequisite: SOCY 1016 or WGST 1016 or WGST 2000 or SOCY 3314 or WGST 3314. Same as WGST 4010.
  • SOCY 6016 - Topics in Sex and Gender

  • WGST 2000 - Introduction to US Gender, Race and Sexuality Studies
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Spring 2022
    Introduces students to the field of Women and Gender Studies. Examines gender issues in the United States from interdisciplinary, intersectional and transnational feminist perspectives across a range of US cultural contexts. Covers such topics as gender identity and performance, sexuality, reproductive justice, gendered violence, work and labor, imperialism and war, and the environment.
