research overview
- My research activities involve teaching and concert performance. I mentor violin students and young music professionals by honing their skills in violin performance, chamber music, and new music. I also mentor young emerging composers and young music professionals in workshops designed to create new partnerships and new compositions. 2021-2022 was the inaugural season of the Virtual Artist Partnership program (VAPP), a partnership between Gabriela Lena Frank's Creative Academy (GLFCAM) and my violin studio at CU-Boulder. Hosted primarily through a virtual medium, artists not only broaden their community by meeting a diverse set of peers outside their network without significant carbon emissions, but also received mentorship throughout a year-long collaborative process. With mentorship from Gabriela and myself, 9 composer-performer teams produced new works for violin and violin duo. My research also involves creating musical events that generate awareness and financial support for food insecurity in local communities while also showing students the importance of volunteering and community-building. As a concert violinist, I program, commission and premiere new works alongside the works of the classical repertoire. My recording projects reflect a strong passion for string chamber music, music education, and literature. As second violinist of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning Takács Quartet, I perform concerts worldwide each year and record annually music CDs for Universal Records/Hyperion Records.
