research overview
- I specialize in hybrid art/design practices- including analogue sculptural methods (foam & fiberglass, clay, metal, glass, wood, textiles & inflatables, casting, bricolage, & more) and digital design/prototyping (3d modeling & printing, laser-cutting, CNC routing, water-jet cutting, industrial sewing, and vinyl cutting). My work investigates the complex entanglement between nature and human technology. My primary bodies of work are sculpture, large-scale site-specific installation (frequently rendered with the aid of digital technologies), and public art. I utilize all of these skill sets in the classroom, where I encourage trans-disciplinary curiosity and connection. I introduce my students to a variety of media and processes (drawing, painting, wood, and metal), skillsets and programs/digital tools (Adobe Suite, laser-cutter, vinyl cutter). With a background in psychology and a long history of teaching, I am always studying how students best learn, reading educational articles, and attending conferences. Teaching is as important to my multi-faceted 'research practice' as the work I do in the studio and in the public eye.
