  • Dr. Sokhey's research focuses on social policy, the welfare state, and public goods provision in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucuses, and Central Asia. Her current research focuses on local public goods provision in Ukraine. She has written about pension reform around the world including her book, The Political Economy of Pension Policy Reversal in Post-Communist Countries (Cambridge University Press, 2017). Her work has been published in various journals including Party Politics, Europe-Asia Studies, and Economics & Politics, and has received support from the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC).

    Most countries confront a variety of common political problems, including how to gain popular support, what kinds of political institutions are most appropriate, and how to distribute burdens and benefits to different segments of the population. Concentrates on learning how to compare different political systems and provides illustrative examples from several countries in both the industrialized and nonindustrialized world.
